Abhishek Bhatia

Abhishek Bhatia is a PhD candidate at the Carolina Health Informatics Program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Research Scientist at CrisisReady, a collaborative initiative between Harvard University and Direct Relief. At the Balsari Lab, Abhishek focuses on equitable crisis planning and response, integrating data-driven approaches to assess public health impacts during emergencies like the COVID-19 pandemic, California wildfires, and the Kerala floods.

His research spans health informatics and public health, employing computational methods such as statistical learning, causal inference, and network analysis to examine the effects of environmental exposures on health. Abhishek’s work also leverages large-scale field survey data, syndromic surveillance, and mobility data to inform humanitarian crisis responses, including the War in Syria, the Rohingya Refugee Crisis, and other global emergencies. His secondary interests include human rights, data privacy, and ethics in data-driven research.
