Daniel P. Schrag is the Sturgis Hooper Professor of Geology, Professor of Environmental Science and Engineering, and Co-Director of the Science, Technology, and Public Policy Program at Harvard University. His research spans geochemical oceanography, paleoclimatology, and stable isotope geochemistry, with a focus on understanding climate change through Earth’s geologic history and its implications for future anthropogenic climate change.
Schrag also works on energy technology and policy, exploring areas such as carbon capture and storage and low-carbon synthetic fuels. A former member of President Obama’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (2009–2017), he has received numerous honors, including the James B. Macelwane Medal and a MacArthur Fellowship. He earned his B.S. in geology, geophysics, and political science from Yale University and his Ph.D. in geology from the UC Berkeley, joining Harvard in 1997 after teaching at Princeton.
